Our dog gave birth to puppies during this time so it made out a perfect lesson to understand mammals and how they give birth and care for their young.  We have studied intensively the chicken and how it grows in the egg.  We compared this to how mammals grow in the womb and it seemed to fit.  The girls ended up with a good understanding of how hard it is to care for young animals by watching the work that the mother dog had to do for her puppies over a period of time.  They ended up with a broad range of knowledge right down to the fact that cows milk is breast milk for their babies!  I was intrigued at how far they went when given bits of information.  So we considered this life science.
