To make beginning sounds more interesting in words we used a hanging pocket chart from A-Z with different pictures for each word with the word on the back to decide beginning letter sounds for each word.  We added the eggspert egg timer for the girls to make it more like a quiz game giving them time intervals where they had to answer the questions within a limited time.
